Apple’s Surprise and Shine event did surprise tech enthusiasts as it deviated from the usual game plan by not launching a base iPhone 18 variant, and by unveiling their first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo .
The iPhone’s Duo comes in a titanium build and has retained the same passport-style design with a stylus support as well, which Samsung dropped in the last series. Even though Samsung is into its eighth iteration of foldable , Apple flexing its display for the first time may attract users to have a sense what an iOS-operating foldable phone could offer. iPhone Duo directly competes with Galaxy Z Fold 8 — a new passport-style foldable phone that is heavily integrated with Samsung’s One UI 9 software on top of Galaxy AI.
Importantly, iPhone Duo will be available for sale from October 23, 43 days after its unveil, in India. More surprisingly, it costs ₹2,99,900, against the ₹1,79,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. iPhone Duo gets a 5.4 inch cover and a 7.6 inch cover display, while the Z Fold 8 uses a 5.5 inch cover and a 7.6 inch main screen. iPhone Duo sports dual 48 MP rear and a 12 MP front facing camera, whereas Samsung has given a dual 50 MP shooter at rear and a 10 MP for selfies. The Z Fold 8 runs on a 4,800 mAh cell, iPhone Duo claims, 31 hours on main and 44 hours of usage on cover screen.
