‘One Crore Pookalam’ by Manglish Keyboard is perfect for these times when we have very little time or space to create the beautiful pookkalams of our memories. It is as simple as logging on to the app and creating your own pookkalam digitally. More than four lakh of these have already been created by app users since its release last week.

The initiative invites Malayalis to create their own pookkalam, with a dash of creativity. Participants can choose their pattern, select flowers and colours, and design their pookkalam in their own style. They can also add their name and hometown, making each creation uniquely theirs. You can create a digital pookalam through the Manglish Keyboard app or at onam.manglish.app. A live counter on the website tracks the growing number of pookkalams being created, and the Explore feature allows people to discover pookkalams created by others.

The Manglish Keyboard, which began as a hobby project in 2015 by four NIT Calicut students — Jazeem Basheer, Ajnas KT, Saneem Perinkadakkat and Arjun — has grown into a product used by millions of Malayalis to communicate in their language every day. The Manglish Keyboard has since grown into the larger Desh Keyboard, which now supports more than 10 Indian languages and has crossed 150 million downloads across its apps.
